Weekly Update

Math: We our continuing on with our study of fractions in Topic 12. Students are learning how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. They are also learning about improper fractions and mixed numbers, and how to add and subtract these as well. Throughout the whole unit students are using fraction strips and number-lines to model the concepts we are learning. Topic 12 assessment will be given on Friday.

Reader's Workshop:
We have started a new interactive read aloud: Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan. In this historical fiction text we will look closely at the author's craft. Our discussions also focus on character traits and summarizing events in the book.

This Wednesday was World Read Aloud Day. To celebrate and promote literacy for all we meet with Mrs. Arnold's 1st grade class. Together 1st and 4th graders choose a picture book to read. Then all students created a watercolor painting depicting their favorite scene from the book. 4th grade students used Google Slides to create a special presentation for families. Look out for this at the beginning of the week!
