Weekly Highlight

Students continued working on developing their hopes and dreams for this school year. To begin their thinking students were asked to create map of their 3rd grade classroom. Students added symbols to their maps showing the things they enjoyed from last year as well as things that were hard and something they want to improve on. Then students worked to write out a draft of their hopes and dreams for this school year and published the final copy on their balloon. Click here to share your Hopes and Dreams for your child this year, with Mrs. E Williams

This week students participated in their first Creative Arts Tuesday. In PBL, students learned about working in a team to complete a task. As an introduction to cooperative learning, students were presented with the task of building a structure out of spaghetti, tape, string, and a marshmallow. The structure is measured from the table top to the top of the marshmallow. After working in groups to complete a structure, students reflected on what went well in their group and what didn't go well. These reflections will help us to develop rules for working in groups.

This Week's Highlight

We read many picture books as a class this week to not only build our community, but also to talk about what it means to have a Growth Mindset.

Check out the art we created from a "mistake" and our new ideas about how people become more intelligent.

First Week Highlights

We have had a busy and exciting first week of school here in RM 21! Students participated in activities to get to know their classmates and to build our classroom community. Some popular activities this week included, Saving Sam and the Paper Chain challenge. We read several books about the importance of including others and how small acts of kindness can change someone's whole day.

We also began the process of making our classroom rules by answering questions like... Why is school important? What does Mrs. Williams need to do in order to help you be successful? Our classroom should be ____ everyday. What do I need to do in order to be successful? Ask you child how we used colored dots to make these groups (there was a lot of giggling:).
