The past two weeks we have focused on learning about non-fiction text. Students are able to identify non-fiction text features that help the reader to better understand the information presented in the text. We also looked at the way non-fiction text are built (non-fiction text structures). Students worked on using key words to identify the structure of a text and in doing so will help them begin strategic readers.

Also, on Thursday students were treated to an Antarctica presentation from Mr. Whitmore. Our goals for this interactive read aloud included asking talk worthy questions, tracking narrative elements, and finding evidence from the text to support inferences about character traits.

Writer's Workshop:

Students have brought home their published narrative stories to share with you. We are now well into writing a second realistic fiction narrative story using all of the strategies we have learned. Students are learning to how generate ideas and develop believable characters in their stories.
