Highlight of the week

We kicked off our first engineering project this week with our Engineers in Residence! Two engineers (one a former Kennedy ladybug!) visited 4th grade to introduce the Engineering Design Process and to tell us about what engineers do on a daily basis. Students have been assigned their first engineering task of the year: to design a wind powered Puff Mobile.

Book Talks are happening almost daily in room 21. Student share books they loved reading with classmates!

Highlight of the Week

This week students participated in their first Creative Arts Wednesday. In PBL, students learned about working in a team to complete a task. As an introduction to cooperative learning, students were presented with the task of building a structure out of spaghetti, tape, string, and a marshmallow. The structure is measured from the table top to the top of the marshmallow. After working in groups to complete a structure, students reflected on what went well in their group and what didn't go well. These reflections will help us to develop rules for working in groups.

Highlights from the First 2 Weeks!

First Dancers of the Week!

We also began the process of making our classroom rules by answering questions like... Why is school important? What does Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Cotto need to do in order to help you be successful? Our classroom should be ____ everyday. What do I need to do in order to be successful? Ask you child how we used colored dots to make these groups (there was a lot of giggling:).

Students also participated in team building challenges like Save Sam! and the Paper Chain Challenge.
