Weekly Update

We have had a busy yet exciting first week of school here in RM 21! Students have continued to participate in activities to get to know their classmates and 4th grade peers. On Wednesday students worked together in teams to Save Sam the gummy worm and the Paper Chain Challenge! (see pictures below). We focused on making sure each team member has a job and positive talk, even when the tasks becomes hard.

This week we read several picture books that taught us to persevere. We brainstormed this we can't do and wrote them on a t-shirt. We are officially retiring these statements.

First Day!

Good afternoon families! We had a great day getting to know one another and just some of the in's and out's for fourth grade, including deciphering the two Mrs. Williams'. We began our day with Morning Meeting in which students played a choice movement activity. Ask your child about some of the choices they had to make (ex: book vs movie). Children also had the chance to express how they felt about 4th grade. Many students feel nervous coming into 4th grade. We read several books today that helped us cope with these feelings. Students participated in other fun activities to get to know each other. In "Find someone who...." we discovered that many of the students in our class have green eyes! Students also worked together to discover the different areas of our classroom by participating in a classroom scavenger hunt.

Your child also learned how to use their homework folder and assignment notebook to stay organized and complete homework. Your child's first homework assignment is the Brown Bag Mystery and is due Thursday August 30th.

These are some of the books about school that we enjoyed today.

Welcome to 4th Grade!

I am so excited to finally meet you all tomorrow!  I know you may be nervous, but I hope you are also excited. I know I am.  Our room is ready, and I have chosen some really fun books to read with you tomorrow.  Check out your 4th grade teachers reading Because You Are My Teacher, by Sherry North.

I have many fun activities planned this week to help us get to know one another. We have Library tomorrow for our special. Lunch is late at 1:10, but we will have a snack around 10:00. Tomorrow is expected to be hot, so be sure to bring a water bottle.

See you tomorrow!
