First Day!

Good afternoon families! We have a great day getting to know one another and just some of the in's and out's for fourth grade, including deciphering the two Mrs. Williams'. We began our day with Morning Meeting in which students played a choice movement activity. Ask your child about some of the choices they had to make (ex: book vs movie). Students participated in other fun activities to get to know each other. In "Find someone who...." we discovered that many of the students in our class have blue houses! Students also began the process of making our classroom rules by answering questions like... Why is school important? What does Mrs. Williams need to do in order to help you be successful? Our classroom should be ____ everyday. What do I need to do in order to be successful? The two pictures below show students working in groups to add their ideas to each poster. Ask you child how we used colored dots to make these groups (there was a lot of giggling:)).

Your child also learned how to use their homework folder and assignment notebook to stay organized and complete homework. Your child's first homework assignment is the Brown Bag Mystery and is due Thursday September 1st.

These are also some of the silly books about school that we enjoyed today.

FAMILIES- don't forget to "follow by email" in the top right side of the page to get email notifications of new postings. I am looking forward to a great year together!

Teacher's Learn Too?

Did you know that just like you teachers are learning new things all the time? This week I took a really cool class on coding. In the class many other teachers and I learned how to use a coding program to create all sorts of really neat projects. I had to think critically to make sequences that created characters and actions. My program did not always work out the first time. I spent a lot of time checking my codes and trying different ways to get something to work the way I want it to. If you click on this link, you can find some projects I have completed so far. Enjoy :)

Welcome

My name is Mrs. Williams and I am so excited to be your teacher this year!  We are going to do so many fun things and of course we will learn a lot. I hope you had a fabulous summer and I can’t wait to hear all about it. Check back here on our classroom blog for new posts weekly.

As you may know I am new to 4th grade too! I have taught 5th grade here at Kennedy for the past few years, but I am so excited for fourth grade! I am busy setting up our classroom for a great year ahead, be sure to check back for sneak peak pictures.

I have also been reading some amazing books for fourth grade! Some that we can read together and others that you may read in books clubs or on your own. I can’t wait to share these wonderful stories with you! My favorite place to read in the summer is at the beach, under an umbrella! Where is your favorite place to read this summer?
